Hey, y’all!

2018 as a home-baker and cookier has been the greatest adventure.  After opening in 2016, I believe that 2018 has been our biggest year yet.  And, I have very high hopes that 2019 will be even better! While making goals for the business, I started looking through our Instagram feed and noticed that there was a very obvious lack of continuity in the content that I’ve been posting.  It looks like a lovely little hodgepodge of an amateur hobbyist.  I decided to browse through some of the people that have large followings on Instagram to see all of the things that they do well that attract their followers.  Engagement with their followers,  posting consistently day to day, and cohesive look to photos were the main things they had in common.  I feel like I had the first two items on point, but am lacking in the cohesive category.

Because I am a home-baker, my kitchen and decorating room are decorated how I have the rest of my home, and the style is a little different then how I would decorate my dream studio.  Our home is warm, cozy and inviting with gold and brown tones throughout our first floor.  The kitchen features a beautiful, busy granite, burgundy bottom cabinets and distressed white upper cabinets.  The dining room-turned-cookie decorating room holds a handmade wooden table built by a dear friend, a hutch with all of our glassware, and artwork passed on to us from my parents of a famous golf course.  For real life, it is exactly what I love, which is why I haven’t wanted to change much of the decor to fit the brand of the bakery.  Unfortunately, the warm gold and brown tones don’t lead to light and airy photos that look amazing on social media and the web.  This picture of the cookies that I worked with today show the problems — muted colors, a yellow tint to the lighting, and a lack of crisp-ness that white usually brings to a photo.

In addition to the warm colors in my rooms, I also tend to work mostly at night after the kids go to bed.  While that is one of the benefits to being a home-baker, it also doesn’t lead to great natural light while taking pictures.  After talking with some of my friends in the business, they suggested I look in to getting a good lighted photo box.  I looked around at a few options, and eventually found the AmazonBasics Portable Photo Studio.  I decided to ask Santa for the photo studio for Christmas, and he must have passed that wish to my mother-in-law who wrapped it up and put it under the tree!  I couldn’t wait to get started on my next cookie set so that I could try it out!  One of the things that I liked the best about this option was that it is a compact, all-in-one product that is super easy to put up and take down (a must when photographing at midnight!).

Y’all!  This AmazonBasics Portable Photo Studio takes about 30 seconds to open up, plug in, and be cookie ready!  The white backdrop inside folds down and the lights turn on as soon as you plug it in!  Next I placed my cookies inside and arranged as I wanted, closed the front flap and was ready to photograph.  There are four different access points to allow you to take your pictures from the angles that work best for you.  There are three flaps in the front and one at the very top letting you take a picture straight from above without creating too many shadows.

I have already fallen in love with the quality of the photos that this lighted photo box helps me take.  I can’t wait to use it for all of my cookie sets and get a cohesive look on my social media feed!  The clean crisp look of the pictures fits with our black and white brand, and my hope is that when you see a photo of ours you can say, “oh yeah, that’s definitely Three Best Bakery’s style!”  Be sure to follow us on Instagram to watch as our feed transforms!

I am also excited to announce that I am now a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.  This means that by clicking the link in my profile and purchasing an item that I recommend, I will earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.  So if you would like to take amazing pictures like this, head over and snag a AmazonBasics Portable Photo Studio.  It’s on sale right now, and if you have Prime you get free two-day shipping!
